He continued with that success and notoriety as he travelled the country during his tenure at Knoxville College. Even after college, he was a much sought-after performer for church and civic events.

John Thomas Lovell Highbaugh Sr.

John Thomas Lovell Highbaugh was a remarkable preacher from Indiana, born in 1899 to formerly enslaved grandparents. Recognized as a “boy preacher” by age thirteen, he inspired many through his ministry and leadership. He served at several churches, most notably leading Good Samaritan Baptist Church for thirty years. Beyond his church, he promoted unity, education, and community service, leaving a lasting legacy as a teacher, leader, and advocate for others.
